Congrats to Todd West and the Men's Soccer team, which won its first Patriot League regular season title since 2012 with a 3-1 win at Lehigh Saturday. The Eagles (10-5-4 overall; 7-1-1 in the PL) will host the semifinals and finals of the PL Tournament at Reeves Field beginning Friday at 11 a.m. AU will play the lowest-remaining seed of the four teams that will play in the quarterfinals on Tuesday: Army (6), Colgate (3), Bucknell (5) and Boston (4). Colgate hosts Army on Tuesday while Boston hosts Bucknell. Loyola is the second seed in the tournament and will play the highest-remaining seeded team from the quarters.
Meanwhile, volleyball--under Barry Goldberg, by far, the most dominant program in AU athletics history--won its fourth straight outright PL regular season title and 14th either outright or shared in the last 16 years with a straight-sets win at Colgate, the number two team in the conference this season, on Friday. AU lost at Lehigh on Saturday, ending the Eagles' 30-match win streak in PL play. Nonetheless, AU (24-7 overall, 14-1 in the PL) has already clinched home-court advantage at Bender for the PL tournament with one regular season match remaining next Saturday at home against Loyola on Senior Day. The PL Tournament will take place at Bender Nov. 19 and 20.
Both of these teams deserve great home fan support at the PL tournament. Hopefully you can make one or both of them.
